Perth Lynx superstar Sami Whitcomb is excited to build family memories with her wife Kate and their two sons, Nash and Reef, as she returns to the WNBL for another season. The 35-year-old American-born guard, who has enjoyed a stellar career in the WNBA and overseas, is looking forward to creating special moments with her family while playing in her adopted home city.
A New Chapter for the Whitcomb Family
Whitcomb, who has been a key player for the Lynx since joining the club, said the opportunity to have her family close by during the season is a huge bonus. “It’s really special to have Kate and the boys here with me in Perth,” she said. “We’re making memories that will last a lifetime, and that’s something I’m really grateful for.”
Balancing Basketball and Motherhood
The WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold medalist (with the Australian Opals) has been balancing the demands of professional basketball with motherhood. She said the support from the Lynx organization and the Perth community has been incredible. “They’ve made it so easy for us to settle in, and the boys love it here,” Whitcomb added.
On-Court Ambitions
On the court, Whitcomb remains focused on helping the Lynx challenge for the WNBL title. The team has been building a strong roster, and Whitcomb’s leadership and scoring ability will be crucial. “We have a great group of girls, and we’re really hungry to win,” she said. “I’m excited to see what we can achieve this season.”

Whitcomb’s journey as a proud LGBTQ+ athlete and mother has inspired many. She hopes her story encourages others to pursue their dreams, regardless of the challenges. “If I can show that you can be a professional athlete and a mum, and do it well, then that’s a win,” she said.
