Nicole Kidman Breaks Silence on Divorce from Keith Urban in Candid Interview
In a revealing new interview, Australian actress Nicole Kidman has addressed her highly publicised divorce from country music singer Keith Urban for the first time since their split. The couple finalised their divorce in January after 19 years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their separation.
Kidman Reflects on a "Rough" Year and Family Focus
Speaking with Variety in an interview published on March 11, Kidman admitted that last year was not her year, stating, "I was quiet. I had other things going on," seemingly referring to the divorce. She added, "I was in my shell," but later reflected on her "rough" year and confirmed she is now learning to move forward since the separation.
Kidman emphasised her commitment to family, saying, "I'm always going to be moving toward what's good. What I'm grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That's that. Everything else I don't discuss out of respect." She further noted, "I'm staying in a place of 'We are a family' and that's what we'll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women."
Family Dynamics and Career Aspirations
Kidman is listed as the primary parent for their two children, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. While Kidman has continued making public appearances, this marks the first time she has directly spoken about the split. Her eldest daughter, Sunday Rose, recently said her mother was her "biggest inspiration," and the interview focused largely on fashion and filmmaking, with little mention of her father.
Sunday is already making waves in the fashion world, debuting on the catwalk for Italian high-fashion brand Miu Miu in 2025 before walking at the Dior show in Paris this year. However, the rising star revealed she also has her eyes set on a career in film, an ambition largely sparked by visiting sets with her mother when she was young. "My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life," Sunday told ELLE. "She's a key part of everything I do."
Divorce Details and Financial Arrangements
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, were married in 2006. Kidman filed for divorce in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 30, with the date of separation listed as the same day. According to leaked divorce filings obtained by TMZ, Kidman is noted as the primary carer of the children. The actress did not seek child support from Urban, with the wealthy pair both listing their gross individual incomes as "exceeding $100,000 a month."
Kidman made her first post-divorce appearance in Paris, flanked by her teenage daughters, highlighting her focus on family unity. The couple had been seen together at events such as the FIFA Club World Cup in June 2025, just three months before their split, underscoring the sudden nature of their separation.
