Man pleads guilty to Geelong brothel robbery attempt

A man has admitted to attempting an armed robbery at a Geelong brothel, with a court hearing he was under the influence of drugs at the time.

Guilty plea in Geelong Magistrates' Court

Clay Milich, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted armed robbery in the Geelong Magistrates' Court on Monday. The court heard that on the evening of March 15, Milich entered a brothel on Latrobe Terrace in Geelong and demanded money from staff while brandishing a knife.

Staff members refused to hand over cash, and Milich fled the scene empty-handed. He was arrested by police a short time later.

Drug addiction cited as factor

Defence lawyer Sarah O'Brien told the court that Milich had been struggling with a drug addiction, particularly to methamphetamine, and was in a state of psychosis at the time of the offence. She said he had been using the drug for several days prior to the incident.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan noted that Milich had a prior criminal record but had not been in trouble for several years. He ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned the matter for sentencing on June 14.

Milich was remanded in custody until that date.
