Authorities in Brazil are investigating the suspicious death of a 25-year-old social media influencer who fell from the tenth floor of an apartment building in San Paulo.
Altercation Before the Fall
Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva was found dead on November 29 after neighbours reported hearing loud screams followed by a heavy impact. Emergency services discovered the young woman in the arms of her husband, Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos.
Investigators have since obtained security camera footage from inside the residential complex. The footage reportedly shows the couple engaged in a physical confrontation in the building's carpark. The argument is said to have continued as they entered an elevator.
Police are examining this evidence closely to determine if the fall was a tragic accident or the result of a violent act. The footage allegedly shows Santos reaching for Silva's neck and pulling her from the elevator. He later re-entered the lift alone, appearing visibly distressed with his head in his hands.
A Life Cut Short
Da Silva, who grew up in the rural Crateus district of north-eastern Brazil, had built an online following of more than 6,000 Instagram followers. She shared beauty tips, makeup tutorials, and aspects of her daily life with her audience.
She had relocated to San Paulo, where she met and later married dos Santos. In the days following her death, Santos attended her wake and burial in her hometown of Ceara. Images circulated online showing him embracing her coffin.
Family Speaks Out as Probe Continues
A family member has publicly described the tragedy as a case where love turned into control. "She can no longer speak because her voice was silenced by a man who claimed to love her," her aunt told Brazilian outlet O Globo.
Local authorities have confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining CCTV footage, phone records, and witness statements from residents. Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos has not publicly commented on the allegations and has not responded to media requests.
As of now, no charges have been laid. The police inquiry continues to piece together the final moments leading to the young influencer's fatal fall.
