A Hunter Valley man has been arrested after police found him hiding in a hole in the ground, allegedly attempting to evade authorities over domestic violence order breaches.
Arrest Following Extensive Search
The 44-year-old man was located by police on Tuesday afternoon following a search that involved a police dog squad and a helicopter. Officers had been called to a property in the Hunter Valley region after reports that the man had breached an apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO).
Upon arrival, police conducted a thorough search of the area. The man was eventually discovered concealed in a hole on the property, covered by debris. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges Laid
The man has been charged with two counts of contravening an ADVO. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
Police have reminded the community that domestic violence is a serious offence and that all reports are treated with the utmost priority. Anyone experiencing domestic violence is encouraged to contact police or support services.
The incident highlights the lengths some individuals go to in order to avoid legal consequences, but also the determination of law enforcement to ensure compliance with court orders designed to protect victims.
