AFL legend Brendan Fevola is feeling the sting of defeat after losing a bet with viral podcaster and former footballer Dan Gorringe. Gorringe, who played for the Gold Coast Suns and Carlton, is renowned for his bold statements and unconventional wagers that often go awry. However, this time, it was Fevola who came out on the losing end.
During his radio show The Fox's Fifi, Fev & Nick, Fevola challenged Gorringe to a bet: if Brisbane defeated Carlton by five goals (30 points) on Friday night, Gorringe would have to get a tattoo of Fevola wearing a Brisbane jumper. Conversely, if Carlton lost by fewer than five goals or won, Fevola would get a tattoo promoting Gorringe's popular podcast, Dan Does Footy.
Reluctantly, Gorringe accepted the challenge, but only after Fevola insisted on the five-goal margin. The outcome was not what Fevola had hoped for. Brisbane won the match, but only by 11 points—far short of the 30-point margin required for Fevola to win.
“It’s the morning after my nightmare,” Fevola lamented on Saturday. “Well done Daniel Gorringe, you won the bet. I needed Carlton to lose by over 30 points. My worst nightmare, they actually lost and Brisbane won, but they only won by 11 points. So therefore I lost the bet. I’m a man of my word, I will get a tattoo of Dan Does Footy on my body somewhere this week. Looks like I’m getting some ink. Not what I wanted.”
Gorringe initially hesitated, citing his growing collection of tattoos from previous lost bets. Just a few weeks ago, he lost a wager with Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos after Carlton was narrowly defeated by the Magpies. That bet resulted in Gorringe getting a tattoo on his lower leg featuring the Collingwood logo, the letters CFC, and the words “Hot Pies,” along with Daicos's signature.
In another memorable loss, Gorringe was forced to get a tattoo of former Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew on his backside. The string of defeats has made Gorringe a reluctant participant in such wagers, but Fevola's persistence paid off—for Gorringe, at least.
Fevola, a former Carlton and Brisbane star, now faces the prospect of adding a new tattoo to his collection, one that will serve as a permanent reminder of this ill-fated bet.
