A Cairns mother has welcomed a healthy baby boy just in time to celebrate her first Mother's Day, describing the arrival as a dream come true. Sarah Johnson, 28, gave birth to little Ethan at Cairns Hospital on Wednesday, weighing 3.4 kilograms.
A Special Mother's Day Gift
Johnson said the timing of Ethan's birth was perfect. "It's the best Mother's Day gift I could ever ask for," she told reporters. "I've been waiting for this moment for so long, and now he's here, just in time for my first Mother's Day."
Overcoming Challenges
The pregnancy was not without its challenges. Johnson experienced complications during the third trimester and was monitored closely by medical staff. "There were some scary moments, but the doctors and nurses were amazing. They made sure both Ethan and I were safe," she said.
Ethan was born via emergency caesarean section after doctors detected a drop in his heart rate. Both mother and baby are now recovering well and are expected to be discharged later this week.
Family Celebration
Johnson's partner, Mark, and their families are overjoyed with the new addition. "We're all so excited to have Ethan home for Mother's Day," Mark said. "Sarah has been so strong throughout this journey, and I'm incredibly proud of her."
The couple plans to spend the day quietly at home, cherishing their new family. "We'll just relax and enjoy every moment," Johnson said. "It's going to be the most memorable Mother's Day ever."
Hospital Staff Praised
Johnson praised the staff at Cairns Hospital for their exceptional care. "They were with me every step of the way, offering support and reassurance. I couldn't have done it without them," she said.
Dr. Emily Roberts, the obstetrician who delivered Ethan, said both mother and baby are doing well. "It was a challenging delivery, but Sarah was a trooper. We're thrilled with the outcome," Roberts said.
The family is looking forward to introducing Ethan to their extended family and friends in the coming weeks. "We have so many people who want to meet him," Johnson said. "But for now, we're enjoying our little bubble."
Mother's Day in Australia falls on the second Sunday of May, and this year it will be particularly special for the Johnson family.
