A 44-year-old Belmont man has faced court after allegedly leading police on a chase through Geelong's streets. Troy Trait appeared in Geelong Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, charged with evading police, reckless conduct, and drug-related offences.
Details of the Alleged Incident
Police allege that on Monday evening, officers spotted a vehicle driving erratically in Belmont. When they attempted to stop the car, the driver allegedly sped off, initiating a pursuit through residential areas. The chase ended when the vehicle collided with a fence in Highton.
Trait was arrested at the scene without further incident. Police also allegedly located a small quantity of methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Court Proceedings
During the brief hearing, Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz did not require Trait to enter a plea. The case was adjourned for a committal mention in June. Trait was granted bail with strict conditions, including a curfew and a ban on driving.
The accused did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear again next month. His lawyer indicated that Trait would be seeking legal aid.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
