Two women charged after $200k drug bust in Waratah

Two young women are facing serious drug supply charges after police in Newcastle allegedly uncovered a significant stash of illicit drugs and a large sum of cash during a routine vehicle stop.

Major Haul Allegedly Found in Vehicle

The incident unfolded on Monday, December 29, 2025, at approximately 5:15pm. Officers from the Newcastle City Proactive Crime Team stopped a vehicle on Kimian Avenue in the suburb of Waratah West.

Upon searching the car, police allege they made a substantial discovery. They reportedly found 972.44 grams of cocaine and 25.26 grams of MDMA. Alongside the drugs, investigators also allegedly seized $65,240 in cash.

According to New South Wales Police, the combined estimated potential street value of the confiscated narcotics is a staggering $206,200.

Arrests and Further Investigations

A 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, both arrested at the scene, were taken to Waratah Police Station. They spent the night in custody before being brought before a bail court on Tuesday, December 30.

Following initial inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Camelia Street in Gillieston Heights. Police have confirmed that several items of interest were seized during this secondary raid, though specific details have not been released.

Serious Charges Laid

Both women have been charged with five serious offences each. The charges include:

  • Commercial drug supply
  • Supplying a prohibited drug
  • Dealing with the proceeds of crime
  • Two counts of possessing a prohibited drug

Police refused bail for both accused, and they were scheduled to face an out-of-sessions court hearing on Tuesday. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of proactive police teams to target drug supply networks operating in the Hunter region.

This seizure forms part of a broader police focus on illicit drug distribution, which has seen several major operations across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie throughout the year.
