Police Officer Injured in Coordinated Attack by Illegal E-Bike Riders

A police officer has sustained injuries after a large group of illegal e-bike and dirt bike riders launched a coordinated attack on five police vehicles, pelting them with rocks and other projectiles on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Violent Confrontation on Ocean View Drive

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 1:10 PM on Sunday when highway patrol cars travelling north on Ocean View Drive at Wamberal encountered approximately twenty young riders on e-bikes and dirt bikes coming from the opposite direction.

As the groups passed each other, one rider threw a projectile that struck the front windscreen of a police vehicle, causing significant damage to the glass. The confrontation quickly escalated as the riders continued their aggressive behaviour.

Multiple Police Vehicles Targeted in Terrigal

The riders proceeded onto Terrigal Drive at Terrigal, where they launched further projectiles at four additional police vehicles. During this extended attack, a rock thrown by one of the riders smashed through a police car window and struck an officer, injuring his arm.

Police have confirmed that the rock has been seized for forensic examination as part of their ongoing investigation into the violent incident.

Police Launch Investigation and Appeal for Information

Authorities are now actively hunting the approximately twenty young people involved in what appears to be a coordinated assault on law enforcement vehicles. The investigation is focusing on identifying all participants and understanding the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in obtaining CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, or mobile phone videos that might capture the events or help identify those responsible.

Members of the public with any relevant information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. All information will be treated confidentially as police work to bring those responsible to justice.

The incident highlights growing concerns about illegal e-bike and dirt bike use in the region, with this violent confrontation representing a significant escalation in behaviour that poses serious risks to public safety and law enforcement personnel.
