X-Golf Morley: $2 Million Virtual Golf Simulator Centre Opens in Perth's Northeast

Residents in Perth's north-east will soon have a new year-round destination for golf enthusiasts, with a state-of-the-art virtual golf simulator entertainment venue scheduled to launch in Morley. The X-Golf Morley facility, a $2 million investment, is poised to open on Friday, March 27, strategically located opposite the Galleria Shopping Centre on Russell Street.

Cutting-Edge Features and Amenities

The 900-square-metre venue will boast six advanced virtual golf simulators, utilizing patented ball retrieval, sensor, and software technology to deliver an ultra-realistic golfing experience suitable for players of all skill levels. In addition to the simulators, the centre will feature a dedicated '19th Hole Lounge' equipped with a full-service bar and kitchen, alongside complimentary pool tables and darts for added entertainment.

This new location marks the sixth X-Golf venue in Western Australia, joining existing sites in Balcatta, Bunbury, Joondalup, Rockingham, and Nedlands. The expansion reflects the surging popularity of indoor virtual golf venues across Australia and New Zealand, with over 30 X-Golf locations now operational.

Local Business Leadership and Community Impact

The venture is spearheaded by local businessman Dean Petrie, renowned for his successful turnaround and $10 million sale of Wanneroo Markets, alongside his wife, Sarah. Dean expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the Morley community to the sport-entertainment hub, highlighting its role in modernising leisure activities.

"Indoor golf maintains the competitive and social essence of the game while enhancing accessibility by reducing limitations such as time constraints, weather dependencies, and costs," Dean explained. "It seamlessly integrates into everyday life and invites individuals who might never venture onto a traditional golf course."

Employment and Program Offerings

The venue is expected to create employment opportunities for nine local staff members and will offer a diverse range of experiences, including:

  • One-on-one coaching sessions with PGA-qualified professionals
  • Competitive play formats like X-League and Your Tour
  • Community-focused events such as Ladies Nights and Juniors programs

Demographic and Economic Drivers

Dean noted that Morley's population has grown by an estimated 10 percent since the 2021 ABS Census, influencing his decision to establish the franchise in the area. He pointed to shifting demographics and evolving economic patterns that are reshaping leisure behaviours.

"The significant investment in the Galleria indicates Morley's transformation, yet entertainment options have not fully aligned with contemporary preferences," Dean remarked. "With tighter household budgets affecting discretionary spending, there is increasing demand for accessible, local entertainment experiences that provide year-round leisure without requiring extensive travel or time commitments."

The opening of X-Golf Morley represents a strategic response to these trends, offering a novel blend of sport and socialising in Perth's burgeoning northeast corridor.
