Changi Airport Announces Major Enhancements with New Private Terminal and Expanded Amenities
Singapore's world-renowned Changi Airport is embarking on a significant transformation, with major construction works underway to cater to both luxury travellers and economy passengers. The developments, scheduled for completion in mid-2027, aim to solidify the airport's status as a premier global hub.
New Premium Gateway and Private Terminal
At the heart of the upgrades is a new "premium gateway," featuring a state-of-the-art private terminal that will occupy the site of the former Commercially Important Persons (CIP) terminal. This exclusive facility is designed to offer an unparalleled experience for discerning travellers.
Passengers using the private terminal will enjoy access to a deluxe lounge and bar, elegantly appointed private suites for relaxation, curated dining options, and a high-end event space suitable for large groups or private gatherings. This initiative reflects a growing demand for personalised premium services in air travel.
Hub & Spoke Amenities Expansion
In addition to the private terminal, Changi Airport is implementing a massive upgrade to its publicly accessible Hub & Spoke area. This expansion will introduce extended dining, wellness, and lifestyle offerings, benefiting both passengers and local residents.
For the first time in the airport's history, a covered amphitheatre and open-air plaza will be added, capable of hosting events ranging from intimate gatherings to mid-scale community activities. Currently, Hub & Spoke provides outdoor exploration opportunities, casual dining, pay-per-use showers, and gym facilities, with these new additions set to enhance its appeal.
Executive Insights and Airport Prestige
Mr Ang Siew Min, Senior Vice President of Airport Operations Development and Airport Operations Services at Changi Airport Group (CAG), explained the motivation behind the upgrades. "Some of today's travellers seek more than just a comfortable place to spend time before their flight — they are after a personalised premium experience. CAG is meeting this demand with an upgraded private terminal that delivers an exceptional experience," he said.
He added, "In addition, a curated selection of dining and wellness offerings awaits just steps from the private terminal, further enriching the suite of options available to our passengers."
Changi Airport is consistently ranked among the world's best for passenger experience, having been named Best Airport in the World by Skytrax 14 times, including in 2026. As the fourth busiest airport globally, it handled an impressive 69.98 million passengers in 2025.
The airport is also famous for its interactive attractions, such as the Butterfly Garden, Canopy Park, rock climbing wall, Hedge Maze, and natural Dreamscape path, which complement these new developments to offer a holistic travel experience.
