Western Sydney Airport Opens October 2026

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) is set to welcome passengers from October 2026, as major airlines confirm their flight schedules for both domestic and international routes. The airport's first commercial passenger flight will be operated by Jetstar, with an Airbus A320 departing from WSI to the Gold Coast at 11 am on Sunday, October 25.

Domestic Flight Schedule

From that date, Jetstar will offer up to 14 flights per week between WSI and Melbourne, four weekly flights to the Gold Coast, and three weekly flights to Brisbane. Qantas operations will commence on March 28, 2027, with four flights per week to both Melbourne and Brisbane.

International Services

Air New Zealand will begin flights to Auckland on October 26, 2026, and Singapore Airlines will launch daily flights to Changi Airport starting November 23, 2026. Freight operations are expected to commence earlier, from July 2026.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked the thousands of people involved in the development of WSI, which took 15 years of planning, seven years of construction, and a year of testing. "In 2011, I commissioned a joint study with the NSW Government into how we'd deliver a second airport," he said. "I said at the time, it wasn't a matter of if Sydney needed a new airport, but when. 15 years later, this new airport is almost ready to open."

Infrastructure Minister Catherine King hailed WSI's opening as a "big moment for Sydney." She added, "With the new Nancy-Bird Walton Terminal, and brand-new cargo and business precincts readying to open, this won't just be the centre of travel in Western Sydney, but also jobs."

Local Western Sydney members including Michelle Rowland, Chris Bowen, Anne Stanley, Mike Freelander, Zhi Soon, and David Moncrieff welcomed the project. Ms Rowland said Western Sydney was "one step closer to having our own gateway to the world," while Ms Soon described it as "a really exciting moment" for communities in the region.
