The fast-food landscape in the region is expanding with the grand opening of a brand-new McDonald's restaurant in Googong this Saturday, December 6th. The launch marks a significant milestone for local businessman Brad Carroll, who is behind the multi-million dollar venture.
From Crew Member to Multi-Store Owner
Brad Carroll's journey with the golden arches began as a 14-year-old crew member in Wagga Wagga. Now, alongside his wife Kate, he has built a considerable portfolio of six restaurants across the ACT and surrounding NSW. This includes locations in Phillip, Woden, Manuka, Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, and the newest addition in Googong. Carroll sold the Molonglo store last year.
"It's quite humbling and rewarding, at the same time," Carroll reflected on his rise within the company. "I always get an enormous amount of satisfaction seeing the opportunities it creates for the team." His businesses collectively employ more than 700 people.
A Major Investment for the Community
The new Googong outlet represents a substantial investment of over $5.7 million and is set to create approximately 100 new jobs in roles spanning crew, barista, management, and maintenance positions. Carroll expressed enthusiasm about embedding the store into the fabric of the growing community.
"As a local business, we are proud to support local charities and groups that are important to our customers," he said, noting partnerships with organisations like the Canberra Raiders, Queanbeyan Tigers Football Club, and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The restaurant also incorporates several environmentally conscious features, including solar panels, a heat recovery water system, and LED lighting, aimed at reducing the store's emissions and energy consumption.
Grand Opening Festivities This Saturday
The community is invited to celebrate the official launch of the McDonald's Googong at 11 Golden Way this Saturday, December 6th, from 11am to 2pm.
The event will feature a special guest appearance by the beloved purple character, Grimace, who will be on-site from 11am until 2pm. Families can also enjoy face painting, balloon animals, and a promotional offer of a free Happy Meal with every large meal purchased during the opening celebrations.
This opening solidifies Brad Carroll's growing presence in the region's hospitality sector, bringing a familiar fast-food option to the heart of the expanding Googong township.
