Peninsula Energy employs an innovative in-situ leaching method to extract uranium from roll-front deposits. This sophisticated technique involves extensive bore-field development where solvents are injected deep underground to dissolve uranium-bearing minerals. The resulting uranium-rich solution is then pumped to the surface through extraction bores for processing at a central facility.

Technical Transformation and Operational Improvements

The Lance project, which began commercial operations in 2015, underwent a strategic pause in 2019 to transition from a less effective alkaline processing method to a more efficient low-pH, high-acidity in-situ recovery system. This technical shift, validated through comprehensive field demonstrations between 2020 and 2021, has substantially improved recovery rates and operational efficiency.

Mine Unit 4 represents the cornerstone of Peninsula's operational revival, redesigned from the ground up following challenges encountered in Mine Unit 3. The company implemented strategic modifications including optimized well spacing and revised maintenance protocols, all aimed at accelerating acidification timelines and enhancing flow rates.

Impressive Performance Metrics and Production Outlook

The newly commissioned Header House 16, which began acidification in late December, has already demonstrated promising performance. Average flow rates have reached approximately 15 gallons per minute, comfortably exceeding the 12 gallons per minute target outlined in the company's reset plan.

Equally encouraging, the chemical transformation is progressing faster than anticipated, with pH levels decreasing rapidly from natural conditions of 8.5 standard units to 3.48.
