Aguia Resources Advances Brazilian Phosphate Project with Mining Licence Approval
Aguia Resources has taken a significant step toward becoming a major fertiliser producer by securing a key mining concession for its Três Estradas phosphate project in southern Brazil. The permit, granted by Brazil's National Mining Agency last week, marks a major regulatory milestone, clearing the path for the company to obtain its final operational licence from the state environmental regulator, expected within the next four to six weeks.
Project Progress and Infrastructure Development
With approval in hand, Aguia has scheduled the commissioning of its processing plant for the end of April, bringing the long-awaited project within reach of second-quarter production. The company reports that the Três Estradas mine site has been effectively ready since late December, with environmental compliance completed earlier this year and the final pieces of infrastructure now being installed.
Progress milestones include the installation of the weighbridge platform, which is awaiting final curing before weighing modules are fitted. Additionally, the on-site product analysis laboratory has been set up and staffed, construction of the main electrical control room and mill operating facilities is complete, and safety upgrades to key processing machinery have been implemented. Hiring of necessary personnel is also underway.
Marketing and Agricultural Impact
On the marketing front, Aguia has launched its Pampafos fertiliser product at the EXPODIRETO agricultural trade fair in southern Brazil, an event that draws tens of thousands of farmers, agribusiness operators, and distributors annually. This provides a prime stage to showcase the locally produced phosphate fertiliser, helping to establish a steady customer base once production begins.
Despite Brazil's status as a global agricultural powerhouse, the country remains heavily reliant on imported fertilisers, making domestic phosphate supply an increasingly strategic asset for its farming sector. Três Estradas is designed to tap into this demand by producing an organic phosphate fertiliser close to major agricultural markets.
Strategic Positioning and Future Outlook
Once operational, the project is expected to provide a local supply of phosphate fertiliser to farmers across southern Brazil, potentially reducing reliance on imported products and improving supply security for the region's agricultural industry. For Aguia, this development adds a second pillar to its broader resource portfolio, which includes gold projects in Colombia.
