An innovative digital service is cutting through the confusion for Australian homeowners looking to ditch gas and embrace more efficient, all-electric living. Launched in August 2024, the Electrify with ActewAGL platform has already conducted over 12,000 personalised home assessments and facilitated more than 1,700 installations, establishing itself as a crucial tool in the nation's energy transition.
From Confusion to Clarity: A One-Stop Shop for Electrification
The platform was created in direct response to customer feedback expressing frustration over the complex process of upgrading homes. Homeowners like Stewart from Oxley, who wished to reduce both his bills and environmental footprint, found the array of options overwhelming. "I was confused as to where to start my journey," he admitted, citing uncertainty about appliance sizes and the order of upgrades.
ActewAGL's solution, powered by BOOM! Power, acts as a comprehensive one-stop shop. It provides a tailored home energy assessment, computes upgrade costs, clarifies available government rebates, and directly connects users with qualified installers. For ACT residents, the service also offers exclusive discounts of up to $3,000 on eligible appliances.
Personalised Pathways and a Surge in Popularity
The service's strength lies in its customised approach. Each of the 12,000+ assessments generates a unique plan with upgrade recommendations, savings estimates, and cost projections. For Stewart, the assessment led him to first expand his solar system from 5kW to 13kW and add a battery, leveraging a $7,000 government rebate, before planning the eventual replacement of his gas heating and hot water.
"Electrify with ActewAGL helped to simplify the process and provide some clarity when I needed it," Stewart said. "It essentially made the decisions for me and was the catalyst that prompted the upgrade."
Todd Eagles, ActewAGL's Group Manager for Energy Transition Products, notes the platform demystifies a noisy market. "We drew on more than a decade of experience... to create a platform that guides customers from initial interest to confident action," he explained.
Cost of Living Driving the Electric Shift
While environmental concerns remain a factor, the primary driver for most households is now financial. "Over the past 12 to 24 months, the emphasis for many has moved... toward the more immediate benefit of reducing energy bills," stated Mr Eagles.
The platform supports varied journeys, from piecemeal upgrades triggered by an appliance failure to full-scale electrification during renovations. "Electrification is no longer just a niche trend, but an everyday decision Australians are making in their homes," Eagles concluded, highlighting the move's growing practicality for everyday households.
