Oak Flats Man Faces Six New Charges in Alleged Domestic Violence Case
Oak Flats Man Hit with Six New Domestic Violence Charges

A man already incarcerated on serious domestic violence allegations has been hit with six additional charges as police continue their investigation into a disturbing series of alleged incidents in Oak Flats.

Man Remains in Custody Following Initial Arrest

The 34-year-old defendant has been behind bars since August 2025 after being arrested at a home on The Esplanade in Oak Flats. Police allege he had chained up a woman known to him within their shared residence, marking the beginning of what investigators describe as a prolonged period of abuse.

According to NSW Police statements, the alleged victim—a 32-year-old woman—endured ongoing physical assaults between July and August 2025. Authorities claim that on one occasion, scissors and a meat tenderiser were thrown at the woman during these violent episodes.

Severe Injuries and Hospital Treatment

The woman sustained significant injuries during the alleged attacks, including fractures to her eye socket and multiple rib fractures. She received medical treatment at Shellharbour Hospital for these serious wounds.

After reporting the domestic violence incidents to police on August 5, 2025, officers arrested the accused man the following day at the Oak Flats residence. He initially faced five domestic violence charges including:

  • Kidnapping
  • Stalking
  • Assault
  • Detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage

The defendant appeared in court on August 7, 2025, where he was refused bail and has remained in custody since that time.

Fresh Charges Added to Existing Case

With the man still before the courts on the original charges, police have continued their investigation into the alleged incidents. Following further legal advice, officers laid six additional charges against the defendant on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The new domestic violence charges include:

  1. Coercive control
  2. Sexual intercourse without consent
  3. Intentionally choking a person with recklessness (two counts)
  4. Common assault
  5. Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

Court Appearance Scheduled

The accused man is scheduled to face Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in relation to these six new charges. The additional allegations significantly expand the scope of the case against him, with coercive control representing a relatively new category of domestic violence offence in New South Wales legislation.

Police have emphasized their continued commitment to investigating domestic violence matters thoroughly, even when suspects are already in custody. The additional charges reflect what authorities describe as a comprehensive approach to addressing all aspects of the alleged abusive behaviour.

The case highlights the complex nature of domestic violence investigations, where multiple incidents over time may lead to additional charges as evidence is reviewed and legal advice is obtained. The Wollongong court will now consider both the original and new charges as the legal process continues.
