Canberra has experienced remarkable transformation over the past two decades, with its population swelling from 320,000 to 500,000 residents. This growth has necessitated extensive development, dramatically altering the city's skyline and promising further changes in the years ahead.

Major developments have reshaped key areas including Gungahlin, the Molonglo Valley, the Northbourne Avenue corridor, Kingston, Woden town centre, Belconnen town centre, and Tuggeranong town centre.

The Invisible Development Process

Most people witness development through earthworks, heavy machinery, and construction crews. However, few consider the extensive behind-the-scenes processes that occur before, during, and after physical work begins.

An intricate and technical process unfolds out of public view before any ground is broken. For the past 20 years, much of this preparatory work has crossed the desks of the MV Law team.

The MV team takes pride in supporting the city's growth, having worked on developments across all the aforementioned areas. Their projects range from land subdivision—creating vacant blocks for individual homes—to townhouse projects and high-density developments.

These developments have shaped the lives of countless Canberrans by creating precincts designed around multi-use concepts that integrate retail, commercial, and residential aspects, along with community facilities.

"To achieve growth, development of infrastructure and housing development have to work hand in hand," said MV Law partner Archie Tsirimokos. "This creates jobs, opportunities for economic growth, city planning, and lifestyle opportunities."

Combining Expertise and Experience

The MV Law team's expertise in commercial property and construction law is underpinned by extensive experience. Over the past 20 years, the team has been involved in more than $10 billion in property sales, over 10,000 leasing contracts, more than 17,000 units, over 4,500 suburban land agency sales, and more than 1,500 dispute resolutions.

This level of success is attributed to the team's focus on understanding developers and their businesses, as well as grasping the planning, regulatory, and community aspects of their developments.

"It means that we have worked with, not only the clients, but also other professionals, such as town planners, architects, builders, civil contractors, marketing teams, and taxation advisors," Mr Tsirimokos said.

"It also requires significant investment in education and training of our people, and development of systems to support our work."

Shaping Tomorrow's Skyline

The results of this investment speak for themselves, with most client partnerships continuing with the firm for more than 10 years, and many for more than 20 years. These relationships range from working with developers who build two or three houses a year to those developing hundreds of apartments annually.

With continued growth expected across Canberra, the skyline will keep adapting to house, educate, employ, and offer recreation facilities to the community.

MV Law is proud of its role in the city's continued growth and development and looks forward to continuing to do so into the future.
