In a shocking incident at a caravan park in Townsville, thieves made off with two vehicles and narrowly missed running over a man. The brazen theft occurred in the early hours of the morning, leaving residents shaken.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the thieves entered the caravan park premises and targeted two cars parked near the entrance. A 57-year-old man, who was staying at the park, heard the commotion and went to investigate. As he approached, one of the thieves drove a stolen vehicle directly at him, forcing him to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
The man escaped injury but was left traumatized by the close call. The thieves then fled the scene in the two stolen cars, which were later recovered abandoned in nearby suburbs.
Police Investigation
Queensland Police have launched an investigation into the theft and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Officers are examining CCTV footage from the caravan park and surrounding areas to identify the suspects.
Detective Senior Constable Mark Johnson stated, "This was a dangerous and reckless act that could have resulted in serious injury or worse. We are treating this matter very seriously and urge anyone with information to contact police."
