A pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, has been killed after being struck by a car in Sydney's southwest. The horrific incident unfolded around 4pm on Friday at the corner of Railway Parade and Hughes Street, directly in front of Cabramatta train station.
Early reports suggest the man was crossing the road when he was hit by a car and became trapped underneath the vehicle. Emergency services worked for some time to free the man, but he could not be saved and died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified, police said in a statement.
The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing, police confirmed. The pedestrian died at the scene. A street sign was felled during the incident.
Crash investigators remained at the scene with traffic diversions still in place hours after the incident. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
