A man has been charged after allegedly attempting to set fire to a bus shelter while armed with a hatchet in Geelong. Police were called to the scene on Moorabool Street around 9:30 pm on Tuesday following reports of a man acting suspiciously.

Witnesses reported seeing a man pouring an unknown liquid inside the bus shelter before attempting to ignite it. The man was also seen holding a hatchet. Police arrived quickly and apprehended the suspect without incident. The hatchet was seized, and the bus shelter sustained minor damage from the attempted fire.
Charges Laid
The 32-year-old man from Norlane was charged with attempted arson, possessing a controlled weapon, and committing an indictable offence while on bail. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Geelong Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Police have urged anyone with further information to come forward. The incident has raised concerns about public safety in the area, with local residents expressing shock at the brazen nature of the alleged crime.
