Firefighters praised for rapid response to Albion Park unit blaze

A structure fire in Albion Park has drawn praise from neighbours for the swift response of firefighters who arrived at the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports of a blaze on Chaplin Place, Albion Park at 4.54pm on May 5. Six vehicles from Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service attended the location, where a building comprising three units was found alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW Duty Commander Andrew Barber confirmed that one of the units suffered significant damage. "The fire appears to be situated in a floor/ceiling void, and has possibly got up into the roof," he said. "We think the roof's good, we're just checking the extension in the roof now."

All residents had evacuated the building by the time crews arrived, alleviating concerns about rescuing occupants. As of 6pm, firefighters remained on site, ventilating the structure and ensuring the fire had not spread further.

Neighbours lined the street observing the operation, with one resident commending the speed at which the fire crews reached the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
