Cairns man charged over supermarket meat theft

A 36-year-old Cairns man has been charged following an alleged theft of hundreds of dollars worth of meat from a supermarket in Manunda on Saturday afternoon.

Police will allege the man entered the supermarket on Mulgrave Road around 2:30pm and selected a large quantity of meat products, valued at several hundred dollars, before leaving the store without paying.

The man was stopped by store security and detained until police arrived. He was taken into custody and later charged with one count of stealing.

The man, identified as Luke David Buckley, was granted police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 16.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
