The City of Perth is hosting its fourth annual Tree Month throughout May, featuring more than 30 free community events designed to connect residents with nature and support the expansion of the city’s urban forest.
Growing the Green Canopy
The program aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and expanding Perth’s tree canopy while encouraging practical community action. The city manages 43 parks spanning 116 hectares along the Swan River and adjacent to Kings Park.
As part of Tree Month, the City of Perth will plant 60 trees and over 3,500 plants at key locations, including Matagarup (Heirisson Island) and Arden Hill Reserve. Planting events are also scheduled in collaboration with Mercedes College and Trinity College.
Last year’s Tree Month saw nearly 1,000 trees and plants added across the city.
Community Engagement
Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds emphasised the role of Tree Month in creating a more sustainable and liveable city. “This month-long program highlights the importance of protecting and expanding our tree canopy, while encouraging people to take simple steps towards more sustainable living,” he said.
The 2026 program offers a diverse range of activities, including community planting days, kids’ nature play, educational workshops, stories in the park, yoga under the trees, organic growing sessions, and sound meditation.
Event details and registrations are available at the Visit Perth website.
