Australian War Memorial Launches Expanded Membership Program
AWM Launches Expanded Membership Program

The Australian War Memorial (AWM) has launched a refreshed membership program that expands access to its vast collection, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences and supporting critical preservation work. With only four to six per cent of the National Collection on display at any time, the new program invites the public to explore hidden aspects of the institution through digital content, online learning, and private tours.

Behind-the-Scenes Access

Members will enjoy unprecedented interaction with curators, conservators, and subject matter experts via webinars, interactive Q&As, and exclusive digital content on the WM platform. Depending on the tier, benefits include physical subscriptions to WM Magazine, discounts at the AWM Shop and cafés, and invitations to exclusive events. Higher tiers offer free tickets to tours such as A Place to Remember and the Annual Members Treloar Tour, which provides access to off-site storage facilities.

Supporting Preservation and Digitisation

Member support directly funds projects like large-scale digitisation, bringing fragile records, films, photographs, audio recordings, and documents online. This protects originals while making history accessible globally. Members can also choose to donate to specific areas: Art, Education, Exhibitions and Outreach, or Military History and Research. According to the AWM, many current members feel they are part of something “bigger than themselves.”

Membership Tiers

The program features six categories: Member, Explorer, and Advocate for individuals, plus organisational memberships. The Member tier includes a welcome pack and a 10-year milestone gift. Explorer adds one free ticket each to A Place to Remember and the Treloar Tour. Advocate includes all lower-tier benefits plus an End of Year Event ticket and an additional pass to both tours.
