WA DTMI Centres Extend Hours to Cut Wait Times

Four of Western Australia's busiest Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) licencing centres have extended their weekday opening hours to provide greater flexibility and reduce customer frustration. The Cannington, Success, City West and Mirrabooka centres will now operate from 7:15am to 5:00pm on weekdays, expanding on the previous hours of 8:15am to 4:30pm.

Successful Trial Leads to Permanent Change

The extension follows a nine-week trial last year at the Cannington, City West and Mirrabooka centres. During the trial, average wait times dropped by 36 per cent, prompting the state government to make the change permanent across all four locations.

Assistant Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski said the goal was to offer more time for customers to visit the busiest metro centres without needing to take time off work or school. “The Cook Labor Government has made it easier for people to access DTMI services by offering more flexible and convenient opening hours,” she said.

New Centre Planned for Growing Corridor

Around one in five customers in Perth's south-eastern corridor currently drive up to 40 minutes to reach the Cannington and Success centres. To address this, the state government has allocated $4 million for a new DTMI Service Centre in the Armadale or Byford area.

Stojkovski confirmed the government is exploring options to deliver this election commitment. The new centre will provide all DTMI services, including learner permit applications, theory and hazard perception tests, practical driving assessments, overseas licence transfers and boat registrations.
