The first concept images of Yanchep's planned $23 million career fire station have been released, giving residents a glimpse of the long-awaited facility. However, construction on the project is not expected to be completed until late 2028, with land settlement and subdivision approvals still to be finalised.
Concept Images Released by Butler MLA
Butler MLA Lorna Clarke shared the concept images on her Facebook page this week, with planning works for the project now under way. The station is planned for land at 128 Yanchep Beach Road. Final land and planning processes are expected to be finalised by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services before the end of this year.
Long-Awaited Facility for Growing Community
The facility was first announced in January 2025 as part of an election commitment and, when completed, will be Perth's northernmost career fire station. At the time, then-emergency services minister Stephen Dawson said he hoped the station would be built "over the next 18 months or so." Though Yanchep has a volunteer fire brigade, the nearest career fire station is more than 12km away in Butler.
Population Growth Drives Need
The current population of Yanchep and Two Rocks is estimated at about 22,350 people, with the combined population expected to more than triple to more than 75,000 residents by 2046. Ms Clarke said the new station would help keep the growing community safe, reflecting on her own experiences growing up with the threat of bushfires.
"I grew up living next to a national park and as a child, I remember the bags being packed to evacuate," Ms Clarke said. "For families in Yanchep and Two Rocks, this new $23 million career fire station means that at least 40 career firefighters, as well as our Yanchep and Two Rocks volunteer brigades, will be close to home, if there's a bushfire."
Budget Allocations and Timeline
According to the State Government's 2025-26 Budget, $2.5 million has been spent on the project so far, with a further $2.2 million allocated this financial year and the bulk of construction funding, $13 million, forecast to be provided in next year's Budget.
