Queensland Architecture Awards 2026 Winners Revealed

The Australian Institute of Architects has announced the winners of the 2026 Queensland State Architecture Awards, celebrating the best in architectural design across the state. The awards, held on June 26, 2026, recognized 28 projects in 12 categories, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and cultural significance.

Top Honors and Key Winners

The prestigious Project of the Year award was given to the Brisbane Riverfront Cultural Hub, a mixed-use development that integrates public spaces with arts facilities. The jury praised its "seamless connection to the river and urban fabric." Other notable winners include the Sunshine Coast Eco-Resort (Hospitality category) and the Toowoomba Regional Gallery (Public Architecture).

Sustainability and Innovation Recognized

Sustainability was a key theme, with several projects achieving high environmental standards. The Net-Zero Office Tower in Fortitude Valley won the Sustainable Architecture category, featuring solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system. According to the jury chair, Emma Johnson, "These projects demonstrate that sustainable design can be both functional and beautiful."

The Interior Architecture category was awarded to the Botanical Restaurant in Cairns, which uses locally sourced materials and a green wall.

Regional and Community Impact

The awards also highlighted regional projects, with the Mackay Community Centre winning the Public Architecture category. The center provides a hub for local events and services, and was described as "a vital asset for the region" by the jury. The Small Project Architecture award went to the Stradbroke Island Lookout, a low-impact structure that enhances visitor experience with minimal environmental footprint.

Jury Comments and Future Outlook

The jury noted the high quality of entries this year, reflecting the resilience and creativity of Queensland architects. "The 2026 awards showcase architecture that responds to climate, community, and culture," said Johnson. The winners will now go on to compete in the National Architecture Awards later this year.
