Mongols bikie fugitive caught after five-day NT manhunt

A fugitive member of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang has been apprehended after a five-day manhunt in the Northern Territory. Brandt Graham, 44, is now back in police custody following a dramatic escape from Darwin Local Court last Friday.

Dramatic Courtroom Escape

Graham is alleged to have scaled an enclosed glass dock—an area used to separate the accused from the rest of the courtroom—before fleeing from G4S guards and escaping the premises. CCTV footage captured at the time shows Graham running down the street outside the court before disappearing from view.

He had been before the courts following an investigation into alleged large-scale drug supply across Darwin and East Arnhem Land, as well as serious firearm offences, according to police.

Capture After Extensive Search

On Wednesday, Northern Territory Police announced that Graham had been found and arrested after being spotted on Tuesday afternoon in the suburb of Durack. Police reported that he allegedly fled on foot towards nearby bushland along Chung Wah Terrace in Palmerston but was discovered shortly after by a sniffer dog.

Detective Sergeant Bradshaw stated: “This has been a significant effort by police, who have worked around the clock to locate this offender. He was actively avoiding police and receiving assistance while on the run, but our members remained relentless in their pursuit. This man had no place on our streets. I want to acknowledge the outstanding work of all officers involved and thank members of the community who provided information and support throughout the investigation.”

Additional Charges

Graham has since been charged with additional offences, including escaping lawful custody, possessing a prohibited drug, and possessing a prohibited weapon. During the search for Graham, seven other people were arrested, including a 26-year-old man who has since been charged with aiding and abetting.
