Pakistani police have rescued a French woman and her two children who were allegedly held captive by her husband for several years in a remote village, according to officials. The woman, identified as Sylvie Yasmina, 42, was found locked in a room with her children, aged 8 and 10, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Rescue Operation Details
The rescue took place on Tuesday after a tip-off from neighbors who reported suspicious activity at the property. Police raided the house and freed Yasmina and her children, who appeared malnourished and traumatized. The husband, a Pakistani national, was arrested at the scene.
Background of the Case
Yasmina had moved to Pakistan after marrying her husband in France in 2015. She had not been in contact with her family since 2018, prompting a missing person report in France. French authorities alerted Interpol, leading to the discovery.
Official Statements
“The woman and children were in a dire state, locked up without proper food or medical care,” said police spokesperson Riaz Khan. “We are investigating the husband for illegal confinement and torture.” The French embassy in Islamabad has been notified and is providing consular assistance.
Impact and Next Steps
Yasmina and her children are now in a shelter receiving medical and psychological support. The husband faces charges of kidnapping, illegal confinement, and assault. The case highlights the challenges of cross-border domestic abuse cases.
