A Canadian man has been left with a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, and spinal injuries following a brutal group assault in the popular New South Wales coastal town of Byron Bay.
Incident Details
On Sunday evening, police in Byron Bay were flagged down along Butler Street by a 28-year-old man who reported that he had been assaulted. The victim, a Canadian national, received first aid at the scene before being rushed to Byron Bay Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The man told officers that he had been drinking with a group of five strangers in a park on Jonson Street when the group turned on him and attacked him without provocation. The alleged victim managed to escape the assault and fled into nearby bushland, eventually flagging down a passing police car at approximately 11:40 PM.
Medical Condition
After initial treatment at Byron Bay Hospital, the man was transferred to Tweed Valley Hospital for further care. Medical examinations revealed that he had suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, and spinal injuries as a result of the attack.
Police Investigation
Police have appealed for information from the public. Investigators believe that two of the males involved in the fracas were aged around 16 or 17 years old. Authorities are urging anyone who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
