Two men from Canberra's Loaded Dog Hotel have been arrested following a botched armed robbery at the Tarago pub in New South Wales. The incident occurred on Saturday night when the pair allegedly attempted to rob the establishment, with one man wielding a knife.
Details of the Incident
Police reported that the two men, both in their 20s, entered the Tarago Hotel around 8:30 pm. One of the suspects produced a knife and demanded cash from the bartender. However, the robbery was thwarted when a patron intervened, causing the men to flee the scene empty-handed.
According to NSW Police, the suspects were identified as guests of the Loaded Dog Hotel in Canberra, a well-known accommodation for travelers. They were arrested a short time later after a police search in the surrounding area.
Arrests and Charges
The two men were taken into custody and charged with armed robbery and related offenses. They appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Sunday, where they were refused bail and remanded in custody. They are scheduled to reappear in court in June.
“The quick response from police and the bravery of the patron prevented what could have been a dangerous situation,” said a NSW Police spokesperson. “No one was injured during the incident.”
Impact on the Community
The Tarago pub, a local landmark, has been serving the small community for decades. Residents expressed shock at the attempted robbery, with many praising the patron who intervened. The pub reopened for business on Sunday, with staff and patrons shaken but unharmed.
The Loaded Dog Hotel in Canberra has declined to comment on the incident. The arrests have raised questions about security at the hotel, though police have not indicated any prior issues.
