A 26-year-old babysitter has been charged with the alleged assault of two children left in her care in Queensland’s north. The woman was employed as a babysitter at a home in Edmonton, Cairns, when she allegedly assaulted two young children on June 20.
Arrest and Charges
Police investigators executed a search warrant at a Manunda property on June 24, where the woman was taken into custody. She was charged with two counts of common assault, and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and indecent treatment of children aged under 12 and 16 as a carer.
Court Appearance
She is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.
Police Appeal for Further Victims
Police believe the woman may have worked as a babysitter for other families and are calling on people to come forward. “Police are appealing for further possible victims, or parents who suspect their child may have come into contact with the woman in recent years,” they said. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
