Elephant Urinates at Texas Republican Rally, Soaking Convention Floor
Elephant Urinates at Texas GOP Rally

A Republican rally in Texas concluded with an unfortunate incident when an elephant urinated on the floor in front of hundreds of attendees. The elephant, serving as a mascot for the Republican Party, was brought out shortly after Texas Governor Greg Abbott addressed the party convention in Houston on Friday, local time.

Elephant Paraded Through Convention

Adorned with a white sheet bearing Abbott's slogan "Unity Drives Victory," the animal was paraded through the convention before stopping in the center aisle. It then relieved itself just meters away from reporters covering the rally. A sign warning attendees of the wet floor was placed in the aisle soon after.

Convention Context

The convention comes as Abbott ramps up support to defeat Democrat Gina Hinojosa in a November election for his fourth term as the state's governor. Ironically, he stated that Texas will be the "number one" state for education if he wins the election. "We need another number one on the agenda," he said to raucous applause, minutes before the elephant relieved itself on the floor.

Online Backlash

Footage of the elephant drew condemnation from Republican opponents online, with some questioning why it was "being paraded inside a loud stadium like this." One user wrote on X, "This poor elephant does not want to be there." Another added, "Elephants are the most wonderful animals. It makes me ill that such a beautiful, smart, and delightful animal is their party's symbol."
