A woman has been rushed to hospital with leg injuries following a suspected shark attack at Coogee Beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Monday evening.
Emergency services were called to the beach around 6:30pm after reports that a woman in her 30s had been bitten on the leg while swimming.
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Beach Closed for Investigation
Coogee Beach has been closed to the public as authorities investigate the incident. Lifeguards and police are patrolling the area, and signs have been erected warning swimmers to stay out of the water.
The beach will remain closed until further notice, with officials advising the public to avoid the area.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses reported seeing the woman screaming for help after the attack. Bystanders helped her out of the water before paramedics arrived.
One witness told reporters, "It was chaotic. She was yelling and there was blood in the water. Everyone scrambled to get out."
Shark Sightings in the Area
There have been several shark sightings along the Sydney coastline in recent weeks, including at Bondi and Bronte beaches. Authorities have increased patrols and are using drones to monitor shark activity.
The species of shark involved in Monday's incident has not been confirmed.
