Correction: Royal Navy Helicopter Misidentification in Crash Reports
Correction: Royal Navy Helicopter Misidentification

The Guardian has issued a correction regarding two articles published on 4 and 5 June about the fatal crash of a Royal Navy helicopter. The articles, titled 'Royal Navy’s only female commando among three killed in helicopter crash' and 'Three crew members killed in Royal Navy helicopter crash,' incorrectly described the Merlin Mk4 helicopter involved as 'primarily used for anti-submarine warfare.'

Correction Details

This description actually applies to the Merlin Mk2 variant. The Merlin Mk4, which was on a training exercise at the time of the crash, is an amphibious battlefield helicopter primarily used for troop deployment. The error was made in both articles and has now been corrected.
