Person Dies After Being Struck By Train at Sandgate

A person has died after being struck by a train at Sandgate early on Tuesday morning. Emergency services were called to the area before dawn on November 11, leading to an operation that interrupted train services into Newcastle.

Police were working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death at about 8am on Tuesday. NSW TrainLink North reported that trains were not running between Telarah and Newcastle Interchange early that morning due to the incident.

Replacement buses were being arranged, but travellers were urged to delay their trip if possible or make other arrangements. Limited buses began replacing trains just after 6am, and train services started to resume about 7.30am.

Some trains were running late due to the earlier incident, and passengers were advised to allow extra travel time, check information screens and transport apps, and listen to announcements on platforms. By about 8.30am, trains had returned to normal on the Newcastle Hunter line.
