Philippines Blocks Gorebox Gaming App After Deadly School Shooting
The Philippine government has blocked the popular online game Gorebox following a school shooting that left three students dead and 20 others injured. The National Telecommunications Commission ordered internet service providers to restrict access to the game, which authorities say glorifies violence and may have influenced the attack.
Details of the Shooting
The shooting occurred on June 23 at a high school in Manila, where a 17-year-old student opened fire with a handgun before being subdued by security. Three students aged 15 to 17 were killed, and 20 others were wounded, five critically. Police arrested the suspect, who is in custody.
Government Action
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned the attack and announced the immediate block on Gorebox, a multiplayer game where players simulate violent acts. "We cannot allow platforms that promote violence to operate freely," Marcos said in a statement. "This is a matter of public safety."

Investigators found that the suspect had been an avid player of Gorebox, which has been criticized for its graphic content. The game's developer, based in South Korea, has not commented. The Philippine National Police said the suspect had posted threats in online forums related to the game.
Broader Crackdown
The government is also reviewing other violent games and social media platforms. The Department of Education has called for stricter regulation of online content accessible to minors. "We must protect our children from harmful influences," Education Secretary Leonor Briones said. The block on Gorebox is effective immediately, with violators facing fines or imprisonment.
