Bayswater Croquet Club to Host Prestigious National Championships in Perth
The Australian Association Croquet Championships are set to bring elite-level competition to Perth this month, with the Bayswater Croquet Club taking a central role in hosting some of the nation's top players. From April 11 to 14, the club will be the focal point for the Australian men's and women's singles championships, offering local residents a unique opportunity to witness high-quality croquet action right in their community.
Expanded Tournament Schedule Across Multiple Venues
As part of the broader Crouqetwest program, the championships will be held across six different venues in Perth, with events continuing until April 19. The tournament features three major competitions: the gold and silver medals, the Australian men's and women's singles championships, and the Interstate Cup, also known as the Eire Cup. This multi-venue approach ensures a widespread showcase of the sport throughout the city.
State Coach Highlights Significance of Hosting Event
State coach and WA Eire Cup captain Alan Sands emphasized the importance of hosting the national championships again, noting it has been six years since Western Australia last held the event. He stated, "It's been six years since we've hosted the national championships — and even longer since WA has claimed a title — so there's real determination to change that." Sands added that the team has been built with a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, all aiming to represent their state at this pinnacle of Australian croquet.
Free Entry for Spectators to Support Top Talent
With matches scheduled throughout the day, visitors are encouraged to attend and support Australia's leading croquet athletes. The event is free to attend, making it accessible for all to enjoy the competitive spirit and skill on display. This initiative aims to foster community engagement and promote the sport at a grassroots level while highlighting the elite achievements of the participants.
