The Western Force have named exciting young talent Boston Fakafanua to make his Super Rugby Pacific debut against the Fijian Drua in Lautoka on Saturday.
Young gun gets his chance
The 20-year-old inside centre has been elevated to the starting side after impressing in training and club rugby. Fakafanua, a product of the Force's academy system, will wear the number 12 jersey at Churchill Park.
Force head coach Simon Cron said the youngster had earned his opportunity through hard work and consistent performances.
"Boston has been training really well and he's been patient. He's a talented young player with a bright future, and we're excited to see what he can do at this level," Cron said.
Fakafanua replaces an injured Hamish Stewart, who has been ruled out with a hamstring strain. Stewart is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks.
Force aim to bounce back
The Force are looking to rebound after a disappointing 31-20 loss to the Melbourne Rebels last weekend. That defeat dropped them to 11th on the ladder with a 3-7 record.
Saturday's match against the Drua will be a tough assignment, with the Fijian side known for their attacking flair and physicality. The Drua currently sit 10th with a 4-6 record, but have won their last two home games.
"They're a dangerous team, especially at home. We need to be disciplined and take our chances when they come," Cron said.
The Force have made two other changes to the starting XV, with prop Tom Robertson and lock Jeremy Thrush returning from injury. Robertson replaces the injured Bo Abra, while Thrush comes in for Lopeti Faifua, who drops to the bench.
In the backline, scrumhalf Michael McDonald has been named to start after recovering from a knee complaint, with Ian Prior moving to the reserves.
The match kicks off at 3:35pm AWST on Saturday and will be broadcast live on Stan Sport.
