Deadly bus crash on Bruce Hwy

A bus carrying 29 people has rolled in a fatal single-vehicle crash in North Queensland. The incident occurred on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu, north of Bowen in the Whitsundays region, around 4pm on Thursday.

One person died at the scene, and two others are fighting for their lives. At least seven individuals were airlifted to Townsville Hospital, while four were transported to Bowen Hospital, and additional passengers were taken to Ayr Hospital.

The bus driver, a 70-year-old man from Mackay, sustained only minor injuries. The crash comes just one week after a driver was acquitted in connection with a Greyhound bus crash on the same stretch of the Bruce Highway in 2024, which resulted in three fatalities.
