Wollongong trainer Kerry Parker is on the cusp of a significant career milestone, sitting just one victory away from his 150th home-track win at Kembla Grange. With a powerful team entered for the upcoming race meeting, Parker is poised to 'raise the bat' for this notable achievement.
A Double Milestone in Sight
While Parker admits he doesn't typically track his statistics, he was pleasantly surprised to learn he is not only one win from 150 at Kembla but also just nine victories away from 450 career wins. "That would be nice. It would be really good," Parker said. "I had no idea of either of those marks, but it will be nice to reach them."
Elivina Leads the Charge
Spearheading his assault on the milestone is the promising four-year-old mare Elivina, who contests the Class 1 Handicap over 1400 metres. The daughter of Saxon Warrior has built an impressive record with one win and three placings from her five starts. Parker has always held a high opinion of the lightly-raced mare.
"We have always had a bit of an opinion of her," Parker confirmed. "She is building a nice record. She just needs to win another shortly, and she will be on her way."
Elivina returned this campaign with a strong closing effort, finishing a three-quarter length second over the same track and distance. "She went terrific first-up," Parker noted. "If she can turn up and produce the same again, she is going to be hard to beat." Jockey Adrian Layt will take the ride.
Strong Supporting Cast for Parker
Parker's team features several other strong chances. Otono will be freshened up and dropped back to 1600m in the Benchmark 64 Handicap after failing to run out longer distances. Apprentice Zac Wadick's claim will provide valuable relief.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruising is shooting for a hat-trick of wins after scoring twice on his home track. "He is shooting for the hat-trick, the big fella," said Parker. Despite climbing in the weights, his running style suits a genuine tempo.
Other runners include Iconic Treasure, who is better suited on the bigger track after a Canterbury run, and Equilibrist, who will need luck from a wide barrier. Lightly-raced pair Mrs Flanders and Leon Ruben, along with debutant Broadway Street, complete a formidable team for the local trainer.
With a full book of rides and a major milestone within reach, all eyes will be on Kerry Parker's stable at Kembla Grange this weekend.
