Aeliana Aims to Make History for Jockey James McDonald in Ranvet Stakes
Aeliana to Help McDonald Match Oliver's Group 1 Record at Rosehill

Aeliana Poised to Shine in Ranvet Stakes as McDonald Chases Racing History

In the spring, it was Via Sistina. This campaign, it has been Autumn Glow. However, on Saturday at Rosehill, the spotlight turns to Aeliana, a mare who has often been overshadowed by two superstar stablemates in her past six starts. She will compete in the Ranvet Stakes over 2000 metres, seeking her first victory since a dominant win in the ATC Australian Derby twelve months ago.

McDonald on the Brink of Equalling Oliver's Record

Not only is Aeliana chasing personal glory, but she also represents a historic opportunity for jockey James McDonald. After securing last weekend's Coolmore Classic aboard Lazzura, McDonald needs just one more Group 1 win to draw level with the now-retired Damien Oliver's Australian record of 129 Group 1 victories. Aeliana will be the first of his five Group 1 rides at Rosehill, making her a pivotal figure in this pursuit.

Trainer Chris Waller has expressed strong confidence in the mare, citing her improved strength and fantastic performances in her first two runs this campaign. "She has come back stronger, and her first two runs have been fantastic," Waller said. "She's got the best form heading into a Ranvet. This time last year, she ran second by a nostril on the same day in the Rosehill Guineas to Broadsiding and came out with an emphatic Derby win. She is where she needs to be."

Punters Back Aeliana as Solid Favourite

Punters have echoed Waller's optimism, keeping Aeliana a solid favourite at $1.65. Her form and potential have made her the horse to watch in the Ranvet Stakes. If she delivers, McDonald will have his chance to break Oliver's record later in the day, with rides on Autumn Boy in the Rosehill Guineas and unbeaten mare Autumn Glow in the George Ryder Stakes.

Challengers and Stablemates in the Mix

Despite her favouritism, Aeliana faces competition, including from stablemate Lindermann, priced at $9. Lindermann has a strong record over the Rosehill 2000-metre circuit, with two wins and two placings from four starts. After a below-par performance in the Verry Elleegant Stakes last start, Waller confirmed the gelding has bounced back and is expected to run competitively. "He's fine. He's had an ECG and everything is normal so he will definitely be there," Waller said.

Another stablemate, Trinity College, is the outsider of Waller's trio but brings overseas Group 3 winning form at the distance. Waller reports that his work has been strong since his Australian debut last month, adding depth to the field.

McDonald's Full Book of Group 1 Rides

McDonald's other Group 1 rides on Saturday include Fireball in the Golden Slipper and Generosity in the Galaxy, both at double-figure odds and considered potential upsets. This outstanding book of rides, all for Sydney's reigning premier trainer Chris Waller, underscores the high stakes at Rosehill.

As the racing community watches closely, Aeliana's performance in the Ranvet Stakes could not only secure her a long-awaited victory but also etch James McDonald's name into Australian racing history alongside Damien Oliver.
