In a significant move for the professional golf landscape, five-time major winner Brooks Koepka has confirmed his departure from the LIV Golf League. The announcement, made on Tuesday, states the American star will step away following the conclusion of the 2025 season.
A Decision Guided by Family
The 35-year-old's management released a statement through the Saudi-backed circuit, indicating that family considerations were central to his choice. "Family has always guided Brooks' decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home," the statement read.
This follows a deeply personal tragedy for Koepka and his wife, Jena, who suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks pregnant earlier this year. The couple are also parents to a two-year-old son, Crew. Koepka, who signed with LIV in 2022, reportedly had one year remaining on his contract but has not revealed his immediate plans for competitive golf.
An Impactful Stint with LIV Golf
During his four seasons with the breakaway tour, Koepka established himself as one of its most successful players. He secured five LIV Golf event victories and captained the four-player Smash GC team. His departure is seen as a notable loss for the league's profile.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neill confirmed the split was amicable and mutual. "We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course," O'Neill said. The league has moved swiftly to appoint Talor Gooch as the new captain of Smash GC.
Future on the PGA Tour Remains Unclear
Koepka's exit naturally sparks speculation about a potential return to the PGA Tour, where he won nine times over nine seasons, including three PGA Championships and two U.S. Opens. However, the PGA Tour's response offered no clarity, simply acknowledging Koepka as a "highly accomplished professional" and wishing his family well.
The statement from Koepka's camp concluded by noting his ongoing passion for the sport, promising that "Brooks will keep fans updated on what's ahead." For now, one of golf's biggest names is stepping back, prioritising life at home over the fairways.
