Western Australian cricket is set for a significant changing of the guard, with highly successful coach Adam Voges confirming he will depart his role at the conclusion of the 2025-26 domestic season.
End of an Era for Western Australian Cricket
Adam Voges, one of WA's most accomplished coaches, will step down after eight seasons at the helm. The 46-year-old, who previously played 112 Sheffield Shield matches for WA over 15 years, took over from Justin Langer ahead of the 2018-19 campaign. His decision comes as he seeks to pursue opportunities in the competitive world of franchise cricket.
A Legacy of Unprecedented Success
Voges leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, having guided Western Australia to a historic hat-trick of Sheffield Shield titles from 2021 to 2024. Under his leadership, the team also secured four one-day domestic titles, establishing one of the most dominant periods in WA cricket history.
In an official statement, Voges expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. "I'm incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to be in the role of WA men's team head coach over the past eight seasons," Voges said. "We have enjoyed an incredible amount of success over the past four seasons, which is a credit to everyone involved with the side."
Future Prospects and National Team Ambitions
Voges remains in contention to continue as coach of the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League beyond the current season. His remarkable success with Western Australia has positioned him as the likely successor to current Australian coach Andrew McDonald, whose contract extends until the end of 2027.
WA Cricket chief executive John Stephenson praised Voges for his dedication spanning more than two decades. "Adam excelled as both a player and leader on the field for both his state and country," Stephenson stated. "Adam made the transition to coaching seamlessly and oversaw a tremendously successful era for WA on-field."
The team currently faces a rebuilding phase with just one victory from their initial four Shield matches this season, secured in a thrilling contest against Queensland. This follows their unexpected bottom-placed finish last year after achieving the historic three-peat.
