The National Basketball League is set to deliver a spectacular visual spectacle for fans, constructing the largest screen ever seen at an Australian basketball event for the upcoming HoopsFest in Perth.
A Screen Rivaling Optus Stadium
In a dramatic transformation of the RAC Arena, the NBL is building a gigantic replay screen for the January basketball extravaganza. This new "Slam Wall" will measure a staggering 32.4 metres wide and 7.8 metres high, taking over one entire end of the stadium. Its size is so immense it is almost comparable to the famous big screen at Perth's Optus Stadium.
This installation marks a significant shift from last season's focus, which featured a giant flashing BoomBox and performances by award-winning DJ Hayden James. The league's decision to invest in the Slam Wall underscores its commitment to evolving the in-arena experience for every spectator.
More Than Just Replays: A Complete Fan Experience
The primary function of the colossal screen will be to show high-energy video replays of the on-court action. However, its use will extend far beyond that. The Slam Wall will be the central hub for displaying live scores, detailed player statistics, and dynamic game introductions throughout the entire HoopsFest weekend.
NBL Chief Product Officer Alex Hamilton emphasised that the innovation is all about rewarding the fans. "HoopsFest is about raising the bar every year, and the Slam Wall is another example of how we’re continuing to evolve the fan experience," Hamilton stated. "It completely changes the way fans engage with the game inside the arena, creating an atmosphere you can’t get anywhere else."
HoopsFest 2025: A Star-Studded Lineup
The screen is just one part of a massive event scheduled for January 15-18, 2025. HoopsFest will see every single team from both the NBL and the WNBL travel to Perth to compete in a festival of basketball. Adding to the star power, former NBA megastar Allen Iverson has already been confirmed as a headline celebrity guest for the event.
Beyond the arena, the basketball celebration will extend into the Perth CBD with a dedicated Fan Zone set to be constructed at Forrest Place. With tickets reportedly selling strongly, the NBL is promising an unforgettable weekend. Hamilton extended gratitude to the venue, saying, "We’re incredibly grateful to RAC Arena for their support and for helping us bring something this ambitious to life."
