Alcaraz withdraws from Wimbledon due to wrist injury

Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will miss Wimbledon as he continues to recover from the wrist injury that also forced him to withdraw from the French Open. The world No. 2 shared the news on social media, expressing his disappointment at being unable to compete in two of his favourite tournaments.

Alcaraz's statement on withdrawal

The seven-time Grand Slam champion wrote on X: "My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two really special tournaments for me and I'll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!"

Recent Grand Slam success

Alcaraz has won three of the last four Grand Slams, with the exception being Wimbledon 2025, where he lost in the final to Jannik Sinner. In Alcaraz's absence, Sinner will be a hot favourite to successfully defend his title. Alcaraz had previously won the Wimbledon men's singles in 2023 and 2024.

Australian Open triumph and injury

The year began well for Alcaraz, as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open to complete a career Grand Slam, becoming the youngest man to achieve the feat at age 22. However, he appeared to sustain the wrist injury during his first-round match against Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open in mid-April and has not played since.

Sinner is now in pole position to claim his own set of back-to-back Wimbledon titles, being well clear of the competition besides Alcaraz. Fans will be eagerly awaiting Alcaraz's return to the court as he continues his recovery.
