Newcastle Twins Shatter Sydney to Newcastle Running Record for Movember
Newcastle twins set epic 173km running record for Movember

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and brotherly support, identical twins from Newcastle have shattered what is believed to be the record for running from Sydney to their hometown, all in the name of a vital cause.

A Lifelong Competitive Bond Fuels Epic Journey

Dan and Matt Bingham, 29-year-old fathers of three from Wallsend, have been in a friendly competition since they could first walk. "We were the youngest in the family and neither of us wanted to finish last," Dan explained. That lifelong drive propelled them to undertake their most ambitious challenge yet last weekend: a non-stop run from the Sydney Opera House to Empire Park at Bar Beach.

The brothers, whose homes back onto each other with a permanently open gate in the fence, are no strangers to pushing limits. Three years prior, they completed 100 kilometres around Lambton Park. This latest endeavour, however, was on another scale entirely.

Conquering Darkness and Doubt on the Pacific Highway

Setting off at 2pm on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the twins embarked on their 173.14-kilometre Movember fundraising mission. Their goal was to raise awareness and funds for men's mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

The journey was a brutal test. "There were some dark times," Dan admitted. The initial 50 kilometres were a relentless uphill battle, with the gruelling climbs of Mount White and Mooney Mooney confronting them in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At the 120-kilometre mark, near The Entrance, the pair nearly called it quits. "My feet were hurting so bad... We hadn't failed in any previous challenge, but we nearly stopped," Dan recalled. It was their unique bond that kept them moving. "If one of us was feeling it physically or emotionally it was the other's duty to improve the vibe," he said.

Critical support came from their father, who drove a supply car and met them every 60 kilometres for refuelling. "It would have been impossible without him," Dan stated. The sunrise near The Entrance provided a much-needed psychological boost, reigniting their energy for the final push.

A Record-Breaking Finish and a Community Welcome

Finally, at 1.18pm on Sunday, after 23 hours and 16 minutes of continuous effort, Dan and Matt arrived at Bar Beach. They were joined by members of their running group in the later stages and greeted by a crowd of family and friends.

This monumental effort marks their fifth Movember challenge and has already raised over $4000 for the 'Bros with Moes' team via the Movember Australia website. Their motivation is deeply personal. "We have had friends and family who have struggled with mental health," Dan shared. "I have three young boys and I don't want them to have those issues, and if they do, I want them to have access to the most facilities possible. We are just trying to do our part."

The Bingham twins' story is more than a sporting achievement; it's a powerful testament to sibling solidarity, resilience, and community spirit, proving that some of life's longest races are best run together.
