Curtis Luck Wins First Cottesloe Open Title in Playoff

A long-time western suburbs golf player took home a huge win for his club after a nail-biting finish at this year's 2026 Cottesloe Open. The popular tournament returned to the Cottesloe Golf Club earlier this month in what proved to be another strong turnout.

It was a special win for one of Cottesloe's own players, Curtis Luck, who took home the winning trophy, marking his first 'blue jacket' victory. Scores for the weekend tournament remained tight right to the end. Runner-up Jye Halls forced a playoff with an eagle on the 17th hole and a birdie on the 18th, before the pair returned to the 18th for the decider. But after halving the first playoff hole with matching pars, Luck sealed his victory on the pair's second return to the 18th — again finishing with a par.

It marked a significant win for Luck at Cottesloe, which has been his home club since 2006, after he finished runner-up in both the 2025 and 2024 tournaments. The weekend also marked an impressive professional debut for New South Wales player Halls, following a successful amateur career that included a victory at the 2025 Australian Amateur Championship. He has also represented NSW at the Interstate Series.

Joondalup player Amie Phobubpa took home the Leading Amateur trophy, while Michael Long claimed the Cottesloe Senior Invitational title. Cottesloe Golf Club CEO Tracey-Lea Tiley said the club is extremely excited to continue developing the next generation of elite amateur golfers alongside the professionals.

'Seeing a local talent like Curtis Luck win his first Cottesloe Open at home, in such a thrilling finish, was a standout moment,' she said. 'Combined with the great crowds and atmosphere, it's clear the future of this iconic event is very bright.' This year marked the 79th instalment of the Cottesloe Open, continuing its legacy as the second longest-running Open event in WA.
